Sports insurance covers non-Medicare medical expenses.  Unfortunately section 126 of the Health act prevents general insurance companies from providing any cover in regard to medical expenses for which a Medicare benefit is payments.  This includes what is known as the Medicare gap.

Medical Cover Relating to Sports Insurance – explains and gives examples of what is covered by Medicare and what may be claimed under insurance.

Centre injury/incident report form

For injuries where medical attention is sought or an ambulance is called, details should be entered on an insurance form.  This is recommended to be done at the time of injury to start the process, even if there is later found to be insufficient grounds to submit a claim. (Note that ambulance fees should be claimed).

For injuries/incidents of a more minor nature, a record should be kept by the Club/Centre or LAWA (for LAWA Events) in an incident register.
